Lynx.  Lynx is a text browser.  In other words it doesn't show any pictures and uses a 'console' window.  Navigation in Lynx takes some getting used to and you really do need to read the help section to use it at all.  It isn't everyone's cup of tea but we use it regularly for two main reasons...

1.  Speed.  Sometimes you want data very fast, and without pictures to download Lynx can be almost instant.  Also you can save the full text of the page you see in exactly the same format, which can later be printed.

2.  Google.  Lynx is recommended by Google for testing your web page design to see if it is 'Google-friendly'.  You may be surprised to see just how many parts of your page don't appear in Lynx if you are not expert in html.  If Lynx can't show it, the rule is that likewise, Google will probably not see it when it scans your pages.

Useful Utilities...

Any Password.  A simple but secure program for storing all those user names and passwords you set up while browsing.  And the program itself can be password protected too.  A nice touch is the buttons beside each entry - one click copies the text to your clipboard so you can immediately paste it into your browser.  We recommend using such a utility as this, rather than asking your web browser to remember passwords - such a practice can be handy but is hardly secure.

WebShot.  A unique tool that you will probably rarely use, but when you do need it its a lifesaver.  Ever been browsing a page and decided you'd like a full copy of what you see?  Most web browsers have a facility to download the page locally, but often block any images - the result can be unpredictable.  You could also just press the 'Print Scrn' key, but if the page scrolls more than the screen you'll need to capture several screen shots and try to knit them together.

Webshot gives you a full screenshot no matter how tall it is.  The picture can then be saved to your hard disk.
