"Technology makes it possible for people to gain control over everything, except over technology." - John Tudor
A digital picture organizer with some distinct differences. You can create adverts using your pictures, and unlike many other programs, it stores copies of the pictures intact within its own files. So if an original picture file is moved, it doesn't affect Manifest. Ideal for motor vehicle dealers, estate agents, etc.

In Manifest you can store all your vehicle photographs, descriptions, advert text, and window display text. These can then be printed out in various formats for the most common needs.

If you have other pictures, they can just as easily be used. You could use Manifest, for example, to store real estate properties. The field names "Pic ID" and "Title" can also be customised within the program.

Manifest is part of the Cruiser3 software family, and although it integrates with Cruiser3 it also functions perfectly well as a stand-alone program. Cruiser3 is the full software for Motor Vehicle Sales Administration, and Manifest is the "advertising" program that accompanies it.

A different principle:
There are many "picture organizer" programs around but all they normally do is organize your picture into categories. Quite often they do not actually "store" your pictures but just store the location of the picture. This can be an advantage but also has a disadvantage - if the picture is moved or accidentally deleted, the program no longer can find it. In Manifest, the pictures are always stored intact in the program's own database and can be easily exported again in the exact state before they were added.

Using Manifest:
There is no limit to the number of pictures you can add (except by space on your hard drive).

There is no limit to the number of separate catalog files you can create (except by space on your hard drive).

The fact that you can store your pictures in different files, and easily move the records between them leads to common sense ideas on how to store everything... for example, keeping everything in one file will eventually become cumbersome when you want to find a record, and filtering out the one you want in your adverts can mean a lot of searching and scrolling. A better idea would be to create files to serve as "archives" separate from your main working file. Every time an item is sold or disposed of, simply move the record to an archive. This keeps your working file to just the current stock items. Of course you are not bound to work this way - you can create any files you want for any purpose representing different categories, locations or whatever you need.

Important points:
1. Manifest is designed for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and above. While it might work on Windows 98 or ME, those platforms are less stable and so we do not support installation on such platforms. The minimum screen size required is 800x600 - anything higher is fine also.

2. When pictures are added to Manifest, the original picture is not deleted from your drive. Due to pc crashes and problems, power cuts etc, it is always possible to damage data files (although rare). This leads to the importance of backing-up your Manifest files. There is no built-in back-up function because this can limit how and where you want to store the data. Also, the best current method of backing-up is to save the data on CDR or DVDR which needs to be done manually.

The location of your data files is:
C:\Cruiser3\Manifest\Mdata

To back-up, simply copy the files to the desired back-up location. Do not move files unless you don't want them available for general use. If you do move a file and want to get access to it again, simply copy it back to the location above (the program cannot open files outside of this directory).

3. The supplied demo file is only meant for practice and when you want to work on REAL data you need to create a new file giving at an appropriate name. If you did use the demofile by deleting its records and adding your own, this is no problem, but you cannot re-name it later. (but you can create a new file and copy the records across one-by-one).

4. The textual data in the demo file contains many spelling mistakes and gibberish making it look very stupid. This is deliberate to avoid copyright problems during distribution of the software.

5. Manifest is freeware which means anyone can use it freely without any cost, but the authors retain the copyright and right to withdraw it or restrict its distribution. As freeware, support is limited - questions and suggestions are encouraged at no cost, but the author accepts no liability for damage to files, computer systems, or problems with software suitability. If an important Manifest data file you create becomes corrupted, it may be possible for us to repair it for you, but this service would be charged for. Manifest cannot corrupt its own files - the cause is always elsewhere on the computer.

6. The type of picture file that Manifest requires is JPG or JPEG. Virtually all photographs are in this format but if you use an unusual camera that creates a different format, you will need to convert the files to JPG before importing them. Two free programs by other authors are suggested in case you need to do this:
